Nicky Astwood of Plat4m – superwoman working mum shares about her motivations, and practical pearls of wisdom about getting through covid-19 lockdown.

What do you love about what you do?

I love making things happen!  I see the people I work for as having something that needs doing (most likely they can't fit it in or there is a gap in the team) and so I love doing it for them.  Makes me feel valued and that I am lightening someones load.

What motivates you?

What motivates me… crikey… my drive to sort things out, make things better/easier, my desire to make a difference in lives, my need to be useful and probably secretly… I love the challenge of overcoming hurdles.  I LOVE navigating the difficult roads of stakeholder relationships, and turning a potential failure into something workable (but that's secretly!).

Three tips on how you're surviving lockdown during covid-19

Surviving is the name of the game during this time, not thriving, so I guess that's point 1 - I am managing my own expectations aiming for 'survival' and not 'thrive-al'.

Number 2, Perspective - my everyday saying (sometimes every 5 mins) I say 'it is what it is" to myself AND you know what, our grandparents and great grandparents fought a war and everyone just got on and did what needed to be done, so that's what I am doing "it is what it is" and "just get on and do what's needed to get through".

Number 3, Texting a group of people in a similar situation to me (working from home with kids). I try to be a bit funny about it but honestly when they text back and we have a giggle it just makes my day.

What do you enjoy about working at Mo-co?

Oh there is quite a list actually! I love that it’s a space where I can work with members of my team who straight away feel at ease in the space.  It’s a professional space too, so whilst warm and welcoming, I feel like I am in a professional environment to support that I am a professional.  I enjoy the chatter - there are times for a cuppa and a chat and then the rest of the time, its head down and bum up working.  Also, the freedom.  I use the space when I need to and it means it’s of value to my business as I am not committing to a long term lease of a space that for sometimes weeks on end I won't need. Oh and let's keep it real - parking is not an issue and there are options for great coffee and food.
